This species is yet another fantastic example of the evolved camouflage attributed to praying mantis. The ghost resembles a crumpled leaf and easily blends in to most foliage. The color can vary from a light to dark brown, green even black. Protruding from the head is a leaf like “horn” that further enhances the leaf like look. It’s thin antennae sometimes move so fast it looks like a blur as if the ghost were scanning for prey. Ironically they are not an overly aggressive species and tend to wait for its prey to come to it. Ghost mantis are one of the few mantis that are communal and can be kept in the same enclosure with other ghost mantis. The ghost also displays a characteristic “shield” or psuedothorax, this and the other cryptic body parts make it an interesting specimen to watch. Ghosts like a little more moisture than other species and you may want to give them an extra misting especially during molting. This is one of my favorite mantis. All I can say is WOW!
